More Weight Loss Tips:

**

#11 Become a “Bean Counter”…
According to John La Puma, MD, the author of ChefMD’s Big Book of Culinary Medicine, bean eaters weigh as much as 6.6 pounds less their non-bean eating contemporaries. Beans do “count.” They are rich in fiber and protein, and of course, low in fat as well.

#12 Eat Out Less…
Hidden fat and calories in restaurant foods are packing pounds on many Americans across the nation. Do yourself a favor and eat at home as much as possible. It will save you money and you will be able to control what you eat.

For example:
Eating Crispy Orange Chicken from Applebee’s Restaurant would put you into a dietary dilemma. A single serving contains a whopping 1700 calories, 69 grams of fat, and 56.1 grams of Carbs.

#13 Size does Count!…
Invest in a good quality kitchen scale and measuring utensils, if you don’t already have them. Portion control is extremely important when it comes to healthy weight loss.

Guessing almost always leans towards larger portions, and as you know, over-sized portions lead to weight gain. For example, 1 oz. of cheddar cheese contains approximately 113 calories and 9 grams of fat, 6 of which are saturated fat. You know those pre-cut cheddar cheese cubes? Well, imagine reaching into the bag and guessing at a 1 oz. portion size. If you’re wrong, you could conceivably consume a massive amount of fat and calories without even realizing it. Believe me, the cost of a kitchen scale is worth it!

#14 Fat-Free does not Mean Calorie-Free…
Many people incorrectly believe that foods labeled fat-free are low cal as well. Fat-free and reduced-fat foods are typically made with extra sugar to enhance the flavor of the product, so calories add up quickly. As with all foods, fat-free products should be eaten in moderation.

Interestingly, many products labeled “low-fat” actually have similar calorie totals to their fat-laden counterparts, so the next time you’re tempted to purchase a fat-free or low-fat product, make sure to read the nutrition label carefully before you make your final choice.

#15 Find a Weight Loss Buddy…
Look for support wherever you can find it, and I don’t mean a girdle! Enlist your family and friends for weight loss support.

Try to find…
~an exercise partner
~an online weight loss partner
~a telephone chat partner for when you feel discouraged
~members of your family that would be willing to cook for you occasionally
~a co-worker or friend that would attend weight loss meetings with you

When you have people in your life that care about you, and what you are trying to achieve, it will help keep you motivated.
