Back Fat…Three Steps to Solve your Fat Problem!

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Back Fat if you have it, you know what I mean. The layer of fat that bulges ever so uncomfortably around your bra, sits on the top of your waistband, and causes whatever you’re wearing to look like a sack of potatoes. Not a pretty picture.

I know, I know…but what can I do to get rid of it?

Step #1: Does Your Bra Fit You?

It’s been estimated that 85% of the women in America are wearing the wrong size bra.

Lose it in Three Easy Steps!

Unfortunately, back fat and an ill-fitting bra makes for an unsightly combination.

Do yourself a favor and make an appointment to have a professional bra fitting done as soon as possible. This service is offered at many of the larger department stores and of course smaller lingerie shops as well.

I had my bra fitting done at Lane Bryant and the woman that helped me did an excellent job. She made me feel totally comfortable and the end results were amazing. Of course, my back fat didn’t go away but my new properly fitting bra made me look much smoother, and actually thinner too.

I discovered that I was one of the famed 85%, and like so many other women, I was wearing the wrong sized bra. I actually needed a larger cup and a larger band. I also opted for a wider band than I was used to wearing. I highly recommend Cacique Bras for a great fit and a smoother look.

While we’re on the subject of clothing, now that you have a great fitting bra, make sure your clothing fits you properly too. A great fitting shirt with a cute jacket is a much better choice than a huge, baggy sweatshirt. Over-sized clothing actually makes you look bigger.

Step #2: Eat properly.

Back fat is just that—fat. To lose it, you need to reduce your calorie intake (Yes, that means you should count calories) and make healthy food choices. ~reduce your sodium intake
~eat more fruits and vegetables (5-6 servings a day)
~eat a MUFA with every meal (healthy fats)
~drink a minimum of 64oz. of water every day
~eliminate processed foods (hint: eat the healthy foods that your Grandma would recognize!)
~reduce your sugar intake
~eat whole grain products instead of white flour

Set realistic weight loss goals for yourself….shoot for a 1-2 pound loss every per week.

Step #3: Exercise, exercise, exercise!

Believe it or not, signing up for a gym membership isn’t necessary to lose back fat. To begin with, lace up your favorite pair of walking shoes and hit the road. Walking is an excellent way to burn calories and tone muscles. If you want to kick things up a notch, you can try your hand at kickboxing or swimming.

If you do opt to go to the gym, try out the elliptical machine, rowing machines, and treadmill. Make an appointment with a staff member, and specifically ask them to show you which exercise routines are best for toning your back.

There are also lots of really great DVD’s available on the market…look for yoga, Pilates, and belly busting routines. Think sweat!
