You might be asking, “What in the world is a weight loss vision board?” Quite simply, the board is a visual tool that helps you focus on positive thinking in the area of weight loss. Best described as a collection of words, pictures, quotes, snippets, and anything else that motivates you to reach your goal, and is put together in a collage format.
When you create a weight loss vision board, you activate the Law of Attraction to work in your favor, which means, you attract what you want by focusing on it.
It can work on the negative side too, so it’s always important to be positive. Think back to a time when you woke up in the morning and before getting out of bed, the first thought that rolled through your mind was, “Today is going to be a crappy day.” I would be willing to bet, that the rest of your day was indeed crappy. Your thoughts didn’t allow your day to be anything else, because your mind already decided what was going to happen before your toes even touched the floor.
Let’s put it into weight loss terms. The other day a friend told me that she knew she needed to lose weight, but without even pausing to reframe her thoughts then said, “I don’t even know why I bother trying because I already know that I won’t get to my goal weight.”
Ahhh! How does she already know that?
Unfortunately, those little words will indeed doom her to fail before she ever starts. Why? Because she has already shut her brain down to the possibility that she can succeed. She will attract what she is thinking about….failure.
If my friend took the time to create a board for herself, it would help her envision her weight loss goals and remind her daily that she is capable of reaching her goal weight.
A weight loss vision board can be created on the computer or more simply by taping pictures to a large piece of tag board. It doesn’t matter which method you choice, instead focus on the visual image you create.
Here’s one of the many vision boards I have created for myself. The key is to do what works for YOU!
Here’s another example that is simple, yet to the point! What message are you going to say to yourself if you look at this every single day when you wake up in the morning?
Right! I WILL lose weight! I CAN DO IT!
You can include:
~goal weight pictures of yourself
~your mini-goals and how you will reward yourself for each one your reach
~motivational quotes
~pictures of other people that motivate you
~images of people exercising
~poems
~clothing tags that show the size of the outfit
~your weigh in chart/updated weekly
I once read a story about a woman who created a weight loss vision board on an old pair of her “skinny jeans.” She hung the jeans up on a hanger and attached her pictures and quotes to the legs of the jeans. That’s what I call motivation!
I also heard of a man that posted his weight loss collage on the ceiling above his bed, so it would be the last thing he saw before falling asleep every night, and the first thing he focused on when he woke up each morning.
Now that you know what a weight loss vision board is, create one for yourself! Look at it every day and open your mind to the possibility that you CAN reach your weight loss goals because YOU CAN!
