Weight Loss Humor? Is it good to laugh at ourselves?

It’s different for everyone, but I would say a common thread among us is the desire to enjoy a good laugh now and then. It’s important to remember that you aren’t alone in your weight loss efforts, and sometimes when you’re struggling it’s good to see the “lighter” side of your problem.

Can we smile at weight gain, belly fat, the trials and tribulations of weight loss, and worst of all stress? Sure we can and we should!

True Story…

Last year a few of us were in the break room at work, and being typical women, we were talking about weight loss. The conversation went as follows:

Debbie: I think the toughest thing about losing weight is getting rid of my back fat.

Me: I know…it’s horrible.

Linda: Back fat? What’s back fat?

Me: Trust me, if you don’t know what back fat is…you don’t have it!

Linda: I’m serious…what’s back fat?

Debbie and I couldn’t stop laughing! Aren’t we wicked?

Another True Story…

Me and my friend Debbie, the one mentioned above, had been talking about starting websites for a really long time. It came down to a, “If you start one, I’ll start one,” type of deal. We spent a long time thinking about our possible site subjects.

She decided to do her site about cheesecake recipes and of course my site is about belly fat…funny huh? We talk on the phone every day and discuss the “ins and outs” of creating our sites and we usually end up laughing at the irony of our chosen subjects.

Q: Okay, so which do you think came first? The belly fat website or the cheesecake recipe site?

A: The Cheesecake Recipe Site! She signed up a few days before I did. So…cheesecake does come before belly fat!


I wanted to share something funny that happened to me the other day.

I was telling a co-worker about my spinning class and I went on and on about the virtues of the work out. Another co-worker interrupted our conversation…

“Spinning? How do you lose weight spinning?” She looked totally confused.

I quickly explained, “I take a class called spinning, and it’s a fantastic workout!”

“I can’t imagine that using a spinning wheel would give you a good workout.”

I just about lost it! She thought I was spinning wool! Too funny! I chuckled to myself and explained in detail that Spinning was actually a high-energy indoor cycling class!
